The Chocolate Pear Story
Beginnings
The roots of my baking come from being around generations of family, and the experimenting and learning of creating new ways of baking, on my own.
In this picture (circa 1967/1968) my mother is at the counter to the left with her back to us, I’m in the very long apron stirring something in the white Pyrex mixing bowl, my sister, Heather, is next to me and my maternal grandmother, the original Kathleen. This picture says it all. This is where my roots for baking started.
Much like a recipe, the flavors of my chocolates and confections are made up of a mixture of family and life experiences. All of this helped turn my products into a business, The Chocolate Pear! After taking a chocolate making class it seemed that I had a knack for making creations out of chocolate. My cousin, who worked at The Brooklyn Botanic Garden, told me about an event that featured artisanal food crafters. I presented my chocolates at this event, where an editor from Bride’s Magazine stopped by my table. She liked my chocolate-shaped pears and invited me to send wedding favor samples to the magazine. She ended up putting my chocolates in the magazine. The chocolates took off from there and I have been creating chocolatey goodness for people ever since! I am proud to be a Black-owned, woman-owned business owner who wants to heal the world one chocolate at a time!
